HORROR SHOW VIII
2018 Horror Show
450 Cases Produced
For our 8th vintage of Horror Show, we are really sinking our teeth into the roots of horror, this time reflecting back to our first memories of fright. There is nothing more accessible for a quick and sexy halloween costume than a pair of plastic pointy chompers and a little fake blood. But dive deeper and the gothic world of vampire folklore drives a steak to the heart of our namesake, meaning dark brooding fun.
Horror Show is a red blend composed of Tannat, Malbec and Petite Syrah. We change the label every vintage to reflect a new inspiration from that year, and this year offers a slight nod to the history and colors of our hometown New Orleans.
Previous Vintages:
HORROR SHOW I
2009 Horror Show
200 Cases Produced (Sold Out)
The excitement of going to see a horror film is the same anticipation we felt as we were putting this wine together. The plot is three strangers from different backgrounds locked together in a small enclosed space, each guilty of forbidden pleasure. The introduction is not a handshake or friendly hug, but more aggressive.
The tension eases as the fruit develops in your mouth and gives you a sense of comfort in it's roundness and structure.
Just when you feel safe, the thrill ramps up like a graveyard shovel hit to the mouth.
Surprisingly enough though, in the end, like all good horror shows, the wine emerges as a hero leaving you with only a few nicks and bruises, but anxious to go through it all again.
HORROR SHOW II
2010 Horror Show
200 Cases Produced (Sold Out)
A wine that just begs you to come play with it, forever and ever....
Slightly more restrained than the 2009, the '10 exhibits more of the montepulciano and tannat characteristics, with the sousao playing shyly in the corner. Take a break from your routine red one night because no one likes a dull boy, and there is nothing dull about this wine.
HORROR SHOW III
2011 Horror Show
300 Cases Produced (Sold Out)
For our third release of Horror Show, we drew inspiration from the first 3-D movie both Neil and I ever saw; Creature From The Black Lagoon. We were children when it aired on TV, and later in life, we rediscovered our love of the Creature in the form of a pinball game at the pub in our neighborhood. Many a night has been spent trying to find the creature, and many a night has seen us cursing a flat bumper or a ramp that isn't registering. But most nights we are playing, we are fierce competitors and happy bar gamers and if you think you can beat my high score, you're in for a real Horror Show.
HORROR SHOW IV
2012 Horror Show
300 Cases Produced (Sold Out)
For our fourth release of Horror Show, we wanted to get back to the nature of the beast...horror! A truly disturbing image leers menacingly at you behind cold, dark eyes. Much like Norman Bates, our Horror Show revels in its multiple personalities. Young, the wine sings of montepulciano and souzao - bright red fruit mixing with hints of sun dried darker berries. Given a year, the tannat begins to rise up and take over, with aromas of earth and leather coming to the foreground. All you need to figure out is if you are a Norman, or a Norma...
HORROR SHOW V
2013 Horror Show
300 Cases Produced (Sold Out)
For our 5th vintage of Horror Show, we pay homage to the inspiration that started it all. Perhaps our favorite vintage yet, the 2013 has proven to be riper and filled with chocolate and blueberry notes...to be drank young for those that like them big and rich, and with about 5 years age for those that prefer their wines a little earthy. There is something for everyone in this bottle!
HORROR SHOW VI
2014 Horror Show
666 Cases Produced (Sold Out)
The number 6 is often considered the most harmonious of all the single-digit numbers and is equated with a loving and caring nature. But what happens when we see three 6's together? The mind races, the heart skips a beat...we find this wine to have the same effect. Welcome to Horror Show 6(66).
HORROR SHOW VII
2017 Horror Show
700 Cases Produced
7 vintages in and we feel we are beating death at this little chess match…
Horror Show is a red blend composed of equal parts Sousao, Tannat and Merlot. We change the label every vintage to reflect a new inspiration from that year, and have followed suit with our newest wine, Field Trip.
Nadsat definition of Horror Show: Dark fun, great or cool.
2019 Wine Dive
100% Grenache, Mendocino
it’s the simple joys in life that bring contentment, and so much like swiming the day away under a warm summer sky, Wine Dive drinks with an ease that goes unnoticed until it is just an echo in a bottle.
A little chill is recommended, along with a second bottle.
2017 Pet gNat
Made from 100% Chenin Blanc, this summer sparkler is a picnic and poolside must! New to Pet Nat's? Yes, there is some gunk in the trunk, but don't be scurred, that's just some nutrients settling down. Chill and store the bottles upright and try not to shake them up too much - pour until you have about an ounce remaining at the bottom and sacrifice the leftovers to the gnats that be. Enjoy!
Let’s take a little Field Trip together to our friend Matthew Rorick’s vineyard! This half Picpoul, half Chardonnay, super limited (100 cases) fun happy wine is what we think of when we think of sunshine and oysters. You don’t even need a permission slip to enjoy this outing.
Our reserve wine for the Franc lovers out there, made only in the best years because as Eccentrics, nothing else will do.
2012 The Eccentric
100 Cases Produced (Sold Out)
100% Cabernet Franc
She has her red hat on and she is stepping off the streetcar to come over for dinner. Ya'll haven't seen each other since 2006, so you have a lot to talk about. Enjoy this "made only in perfect years" cabernet franc while you can!
2006 The Eccentric
42 Cases Produced (SOLD OUT)
100% Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc, for us, is pure hedonistic joy, which is why we chose it to be our 'reserve' wine .
Inspired by the eccentric characters we have had the privilege to know and admire in New Orleans, and their interesting choice in pets. It is not unusual to see someone walking their miniature horse, goat, duck or parrot on the streets of the French Quarter.
We are incredibly fortunate to have been able to produce a limited amount of this noble grape grown at White Rock Vineyards (some of the oldest Cabernet Franc being grown in Napa). Our luck continued at bottling when our winemaker ran out of foils and opted to hand wax each bottle - further convincing us that Christopher Vandendriessche is a Rock Star!
2012 Squawking Parrot
50% Carignan, 50% Petite Sirah
When is Carignan good enough to be put in a VMW wine? When it's 110 years old and grown on a barbed wire picket fence on the hillsides of Napa. The soft, spicy notes of the Carignan complement the blueberry chocolateness of the Petite Sirah and in a twist of fate, the two varietals come together to make an elegant, balanced wine in the vein of Double Shotgun.
2014 Peep Show
El Dorado, California
For 2014 we blended the most seductive Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Roussanne. Although the new blend is a little rounder than the 2013, we still recommend chilling 2 bottles at a time because you will regret not having a second ready as you quickly finish the first!
2013 Peep Show
El Dorado, California
Equal parts Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier, this beauty starts off a little shy, but that's all a part of the show. By the second sip, the wine teases you with hints of the complexities to come. As you cheer for more, all is revealed. Lush tropical fruit, bananas and white flowers dance on your tongue and in your head. By the time the show is over, you are begging for an encore. Make sure you have a second bottle on hand as the show only improves with increased audience participation.
